Question Running rough

I have an F250 with 112,000 on it. It started idling rough when it's cold. It's gotten worse and when I'm light on the gas petal accelerating on the freeway it feels like it's missing. If I romp on it, it goes just fine whether from a dead stop or going 60mph but just when I'm barely in the gas it gives me trouble. My mechanic at work said it might be the cam position sensor. Fuel filters have been changed. I run lucas injector cleaner and Diesel Kleen in every other tank. Any ideas?

Welcome to FTE karlfly Seems like the mechanic is talking about the 7.3L in your situation with the cam position sensor. The 6.0 running rough when cold would indicate sticking injector spool valves, stuttering upon acceleration would point you toward the EGR valve.

Start with the simple things, when was the last time the EGR has been out and cleaned? What oil are you currently using?

Mine was doing the exact same thing and it was bad injectors. Took it in under warranty and it runs great now!! When you hit the gas does is put out more smoke than it used too? Mine was missing and running rough and blowing more smoke than normal. I wish it would have been all 8 injectors, Ford was too cheap to replace all 8, only the ones that were bad!

FTE You by chance a BTLS fan by any chance?

I'll try the EGR valve. I'm not sure what brand oil I'm using but I know it's a synthetic. Thanks for the advise. Anyone know how expensive injectors are to replace???

I also have had my cam position sensor go bad on my 04 6.0 but it never ran rough it just dies and then wouldn't start back up. I think the CPS will just cause you engine to die! Have it scanned and see what codes you have and that will likely let you know what the issue may be!

Karfly, I would find out what synthetic oil is being used in your truck, the wrong oil can cause an imbalance in the injectors.

I have the same problem with my 06 started at about 105K dealer told me injectors all eight and fuel pump two other opinions said its not injectors and one told me very possible a motor mount the miss was cause the mount acts as a ground and the vibration cause its not absorbing as much any more it all started right after an oil change was done after reading your post maxium 4x4 i'm starting to wonder i take it to the same place everytime because i was told to run the same oil once you start with one not to change it could changing oil cause the imbalance?

It is using the WRONG oil that causes the problems, not changing oils!
