When I was taking it apart a single ball bearing fell out, dont have a clue where it came from, So Later tonight I will go back and try something.
Anyone rebuild these starters? Very robust starter but this one is picking on me

I bet I know where your single ball bearing goes. When you pull the bendix and it's stubby shaft out, there's usually a ball bearing at the end of the stub shaft that goes into the gear reduction (usually it's machined out to hold the ball bearing as well) That bearing sort of acts like a thrust washer I think.I had some issues with a planetary gear reduction starter on my project (bolted the starter in and it was already engaged to the ring gear by 3/16"... that won't work!). Starter was fine, the issue was in other things.
