I used my code reader to get the codes out of the computer on my new truck and it said something about the torque converter lockup solenoid , the dealer I bought it from said they were driving back from the auto auction place and he said it smoked out going up a hill and wouldn't move anymore , I have a feeling all it was is the torque converter , but whoever removed the transmission was really rough on it , broken case by the front oil pan bolts and dropped it with the pan off messing up the solenoids inside .
here is a truck pic

Wow, you bought that for 500? body looks to be in really great shape (better than mine anyways) Only advice I can say is change the fluid regularly, good luck

It all depends on how its treated. If you don't drive like a bat out of hell and don't do a lot of pulling with it, and make sure it's maintained properly, it can last as long as an engine if not longer.
