I wanted 285/75/16 E rated Firestone AT but they were back ordered so tire guy suggested Widetrack Baja AT. I guess they are a private label of Firestone. I also talked with a tech who is on his second set and he said they were a good tire. I could not pass up the deal I got so they are getting installed on Friday. I'll post once I get a few miles on them.
I think a 285/75 is a great choice because it offers a nice tall tire and just a skosh wider than stock tires and if you're in a snowy climate, would be better than a fatter 295 for example.
The tires will easily clear in your 2000 (even with front leaf springs). The recommended wheel width (by the tire manufacturers) is 7.5" to 9", with 8" being optimum. Our wheels are 16x7", which makes them just a tad narrow. Many people plus size there tires and run them on stock rims and have no issues. I'm probably going to go 16x8" on the rims when I get tires. My truck is almost 7 years old and could use some new shoes anyway...
I also hear that moving up to 285/75-16 makes the speedo accurate (at least for the diesels it does)...

Hmm..I do want a tad wider tire as well.. What am I asking for if I want a 285 size with a 9" width?
Just an update. A little over 150 miles and have to say its a good tire for the money. Good tread and handles well on wet roads. I'll post back when we get snow.
