I have a 2005 Expedition Limited (with just over 100k miles) and out of nowhere my factory navigation/radio/rear seat dvd won't turn on. It actually started acting up a few weeks ago when there was a high pitched hiss when the unit was on. If I turned the car off completely and turned it back on it would usually go away until the next time and it wouldn't always happen either. Then two mornings ago it wouldn't turn on at all and it still won't.
When I checked the fuse it appeared fine but I replaced it anyway. Nothing. Then I disconnected the car battery and reconnected it. Still nothing.
I've searched online and can't seem to find anyone that has had the same problem.
imo, time to go aftermarket! BUT....i have an oem nav unit here in my office. i sent it in to united radio to see if it's any good. they said there was a slight line across the screen, but i cannot prove it, as i dont have another expy to install it into. wouldn't suprise me if they just said that to get money out of it. i can send it to you, and if you can decide if you want to pay for it, or send it back.
Good time to get a replacement! One of the regrets I had getting my '05 EB was the nav system. Can't believe these things were ~$1800 new! Eh, but the deal on the truck was too good to pass up. If it were easy to switch to a Ford 6-disc in-dash deck, I would.
