Door Handle

I have a 94 F-150 and I can NOT open the door from the inisde. It will pull up won't open. If i pull up I fell as though I will break the handle off. Any Ideas. It youes to work! I have power windows and lock and is on the drivers side door.

Thanks,
Ryan

Take the panel off and look for any binding or broken pieces. You can try pulling up on the actuator rod as you pull the handle. If that works you know something's binding.

There are cables in the door . When you pull your door handle it pulls the cable and the cable pulls the assembly to open your door. On our trucks the cable breaks. It is not that bad to replace and the junkyard gave me mine for 2 dollars a piece. Brand new the cable is like 15 dollars a piece. Replace it and there ya go. Good luck.

it doesn't feel as though a cable is busted, but rather really hard to pull up.

Don't yank on it too hard. When I bought Solid Gold, the inside pass door handle required alot of force to open the door. When I took the panel off to check it out, repeated yanking on the seized mechanism by the previous owner had caused the metal of the inner door skin where the mechanism mounts to fatigue and crack. Even after the handle was replaced, the panel would flex when the handle was pulled, making it still difficult to open the door. I ended up fabbing a sheet metal insert to slide between the handle mechanism and the inner door to reinforce and distribute the pulling load.

Long story short, take off that panel and see whats up before any damage is done. Good luck.

Unless the mechanism is all rusted up, its likely just the cable binding. When you pull the door panel off and get a look at it you'll have a better idea. Sometimes just lubing the cable is enough. I had to replace mine.

I fixed my door handle. pulled the panel (which wasn't that bad), lubed the cable and tightened down the bracket. Tried it with the panel off a few times, reinstalled the panel and it works like a champ! Great feeling to be able to open my door from the inside.

Thanks,
Ryan
