Blue interior questions.....

Ya I know, blue. But it's growing on me. Anyway, here is my situation. My truck needs a new dash pad and ash tray. I found both at a local pick-a-part yard. The ashtray is gray, the pad tan. I bought some SEM Pacific Blue Vinyl paint (on the recommendation of the paint counter guy) to change their color, but it's tooo blue. I sprayed the ashtray, and it came out great...lol, just way too blue. I'd invest in another can, if I could find a color that was closer to the interior color. Has anyone had any experience with this? Any chance anyone knows what color is close? Is it BlueMist???

Thanks!!!!
Al

I believe LMC truck has some interior paint that you can use to paint the different parts of the dash the O.E. colors that were available for the truck and then some. It may not be an exact match due to the rest of the interior is more than likely faded from age, but it should get you closer to a match.

Napa and other auto part stores actually mix to match exhisiting colors... Napa mixed a can to match the charcoal color of my suv rear view mirror when it got hit at the supermarket... DUMB-A$$es!!! anyway I would just take in another piece of the dash and have a color match done. Napa put mine in a aerosol can for me... shake and spray!

Cool. I didn't know Napa could do that. Also sucks since we don't have a napa around here.

You'd be surprised who can do it. Sherwin Williams (home paint store) does it too. Just ask around because there are places out there that do exact mix car paint to match... I have saved more fenders, mirrors, and bumpers than I care to mention becuase you can go get paint mixed and put in aerosol cans. I also have a work shop with an industrial booth set-up for paint and powder coat (my own design inside my morton building)... Most of the problem is on prep work, moisture in the air, and moisture in the air lines if you are using a compressor. But that is easily solved by making your own condensor out of a dorm fridge and an extra 100 ft of air hose with a collector on the outside to knock the moisture out of the hose once it's condensed... i built a suped-up one for my local auto body shop when his $4000 compressed air dryer went out... Total cost to me $250, total cost to him $500, knowing he'll need me back if anything ever fails... Priceless! although i havn'e been called back in over 6 years...
