I've been using the FoMoCo Cetane Booster in my '08 F350, Supercab, 4X4 shortbed since I bought it. I put it in when I run Sunoco's 40 Cetane diesel and average about 12MPG around town. When I run Shell's 45 Cetane diesel, I don't use the cetane booster and loose 1MPG around town.
Has anyone used other boosters and found one that works well for them? I'll continue to use FoMoCo's booster unless there's a better one out there. I didn't spot a thread that talked about this for the 6.4s, so I thought I'd ask.
Tip: You can't believe the marketing hype from oil companies offering 40 or 45 cetane fuel. Every load dumped into the storage tanks differs. There's only one state in the U.S. where you're sure of getting 45 cetane fuel...California. The state mandates a min 45 cetane to meet emission standards. No other state regulates diesel fuel. The pump might say 40 or 45 but there's no "watchdog" making sure it is. Until the other 49 states copy California...keep using the cetane boost.

Diesel Power Magazine just did a test of whether cetane boosters help. They explained how the process that the refineries use to reduce the sulfur content by flooding it with hydrogen takes out some of its power rating and its lubricating properties. Ive used Power Service since running a few tanks of fuel with just pump diesel and noticed a big difference in not only power but mileage. The article is probably online, it also shows that the use of cetane boosters increases mileage across the board.
I started using Diesel Kleen for ulsd 2000k miles ago, have gained about 1.5 mpg city and 2 mpg highway since using it. My salesman at the dealership told me about it, I figured he was BS'ing, but it has definately improved mileage. Can't say I've notice any power gains, but can't say I have paid attention to that either.
kinda talked about the cetane booster over in this thread.

Good info. Thanks.
Appreciate the multiple inputs. I noticed several references about the 6.4s needing 45 Cetane. That's extremely hard to find in the Northern Virginia area. It's predominantly 40.
Would it do any good to put in 6-8 ounces of Cetane boost each fill up (which is usually 26 to 28 gallons) versus the 4 ounces recommended to treat up to 25 gallons? Would using 6-8 ounces cause any problems? I'm thinking about how to bring up the Cetane level in the diesel to the recommended 45 Cetane rating.
A few ounces here & there over the recommended won't hurt. Cetane boost will only raise the level to the 46-48 range. More booster doesn't mean higher ratings. 50 is tops.
