Don't want to cut you short, but there are so many for that general question. Even if you gave us truck size there would still be so many possibilities. Could you be more specific? With a truck that old you can't always rely on the door tag, but you can usually rely on a diff cover plate or casting stamp on the housing.

when i lifted the tail off the ground and counted rotations it came out at around 2 and three quarters but i dont think its right. and i found a code like H2J. at least i think thats what it is.

I will venture a guess: Ford 9" - 3.50 ratio and I will suppose this is a 1/2 Ton pickup. But, they also used them in the E-series vans and in Big Broncos. Has 10 cover bolts.
