The 223 I6 in my 54 F100 came without a starter. I am converting to 12V so I ordered it for a 56. I bought a reman from my local carquest and a drive from CG Early Ford Parts. The drive is held on by a pin through the end of the motor shaft (which I don't have). My question is. how do I get the pin in? The hole is partially blocked by a sleeve on the drive. My parts book shows an "old" type drive with a spring on the pin end. Apparently the spring could be compressed to access the pin hole. There is no spring on mine. Maybe I have the wrong one??

I ordered the starter for a 223 , 1956 so as to get a 12 V unit. I don't know why the drive doesn't come with it but I knew that at time of order. My local carquest parts house couldn't ID the right drive for it so I ordered it from CG Early Ford Parts. Their part number is 1CM-11350 and is listed for the right year. The starter was re-maned by OCA, part # 3115. Shaft length is good to the drive. Its a bummer that a pin didn't come with it though. In researching the drive before ordering, I found vendors that used the term "new type" but still listed for my year.

1CM-11350-C is the actual Ford part number and was replaced in 1961 by C1AZ-11350-A.
This Bendix Drive usually isn't furnished with the starter.
And...when you bought the Bendix Drive from Ford, it didn't come with the pin!
