2003 mountaineer keypad code

Just purchased a 2003 mercury mountaineer have several questions. Where is the factory set code located for the keyless pad. Owner manual does give a clear explanation on the garage door opener buttons.

on our 2002, i believe i took off the plastic inner fender well cover on the back drivers side, inside the cab. and it was written on the black box. probably not there, but there was originally a sheet in the glove box in the shipping operators manual - folder.

don't have the images on my laptop but basicly its behind the panel to your right if your sitting in the right rear seat.

to get to it, open your right rear door, pull up the weather strip, unclip the panel where the seat belt comes out of, and then unclip the panel under that. You don't need to take it completely off, just undo 2-3 of the clips and pry it back to get about a 6 inch gap and ther should be a black box which have a part number and a 5 digit code. thats the code for your vehicle. look in your manual how to change it to whatever you want.

it is in the same place for my 02 explorer and 03 aviator and a friends 03 explorer. Also if you do a google search for it (try explorer since they're more popular) you'll probably find step-by-step pictures.

On my 2004 Mountaineer, the code was in the same place that Ramacher described.

As for the Homelink garage door opener, what issues are you having? Do you have a code-hopping garage door opener that you are trying to program to?

Thanks for the info on the key pad;
The garage door opener; I'm confuse, I have 1/2 hp craftsman openers; I have a wireless key pad on one of the opener's from the outside; and I figure you program the car remote the same way as if adding a wireless key pad.
The owners manual seems to lead me into thinking I open the cover on the headliner and insert a remote; Sounds dumb; but that's how I interpete it.
I figure you push the button on the back of the garage door opener and then press one of the buttons on the overhead console? kinda like I did for the wireless pad I installed on the wall by the door.
But I'm lost as last year easter egg on this one!!! lol
again thanks for your help.

Does your Mountaineer have the three button Homelink system? There are a couple of variations to the garage door openers in vehicles. Some do contain a compartment for an OEM opener remote that just offers a nicely trimmed button to activate the OEM remote. Others have an RF opener built in and branded "Homelink." Assuming the Homelink system, then the way you program it will differ depending on if you have code hopping or not. The owner's manual speaks to this with a Note on the bottom of page 63.

If I recall correctly, if your Craftsman remote buttons are blue, you have a code hopping (rolling code as referred to in the Note) system. If the buttons on the remote are light gray (compared with the gray of the remote case) then you do not have a code hopping system.

Basically read through the Homelink information starting on page 62 of your owner's manual completely, including the notes prior to attempting to program. Some steps have time constraints so you'll want to be prepared when you come to those steps. Once you have everything ready to complete the steps, start back at step one and attempt the program.

Sorry for the late reply; but yes I have the homelink type; also the three little black buttons on the overhead console.
Will get a pot of coffee on and read the manual will a little more focus on the opener; just might surprise myself and understand this highspeed stuff.
thanks

We have an 02 Explorer XLT, this is exactly where we found it. the number is behind the "plastic trim" on the passenger side C pillar, on a computer, I needed a mirror to read the number to the wifey.
