Need help before the Ford "tech" messes this up. 2006 F-350, 6.0 ltr...This is no word of a lie. Oil change in May...5W40..truck starts very rough. Upon accelearting, chugs and sputters, no compression. Smooths out after a couple miles. Summer appears O.K. Temp down near 32 and new oil change. Problem is back. Starts rough and sputters and chugs until you go a few miles. WTF? Need thoughts. Oil change a coincidence and it has to do with cold damp weather? Or is their any way the oil changes have something to do with this. I am absolutely lost and at my wits end. Gotta any ideas...all appreciated.
Since it's doing that in cold weather I would guess it's a glow plug or glow plug harness problem. If the GP's are not working properly it will be difficult to start and won't run very well in cold weather. Once some heat builds up in the cylinders it will run more smoothly.
Some others will be along to provide their input as well so hold tight for a bit!
Oh, and Wlecome to FTE and the 6.0 Forum!! There are lots of helpful guys here with plenty of knowledge to share.
Be sure to check out the Tech Folder at the top of this forum as there is plenty of great info in there.

Reason: Welcome!
Tks for the quick response and the welcome. Will review some more feeds before making the decision on what to do. This is the big problem. On warranty..Can't go near it without Ford shooting me. But ur ideas I will shurly pass on to the "Techs"!
I say injectors. Try plugging it in for 2 or 3 hours if you have a block heater. If it starts and runs OK partially warm it's probably injector stiction.
Are you sure it's 5w40 that's in there and not 15w40? Did Ford do your last oil change? Also you don't seem to have much confidence with your Ford tech; have they done something that would make you question their knowledge or skill?
Ford was using 10w30 conventional...I changed to 5W40 synthetic, AMSOIL, previously I used Valvoline 5W40. All filters changed..oil, fuel, air...all from Ford dealer..Donaldson stuff. Regardless of the Valvoline or the AMSOIL, same issues as before. Bad starting, real bad ride.
You hear me right. Ford uses "techs", not mechanics. If it doesn't throw a code, they are clueless...at least where I come from. I have had past experiences with them with my F-150 that leave me synical.
Anything you guys can give me is appreciated....I pass this on to the "tech", so when the codes don't appear, they got something to go on.
And if ur wondering why I deal with this Ford dealer.....small town, 5 guys on staff and 40min from the big city...unless I like to walk.....I'm kinda in a pickle.
These 6.0L engines are VERY hard to troubleshoot. Personally I think of all of the GOOD modern-day diesel mechanics as "techs" because they need to use so many sophisticated tools for troubleshooting. Also, there are varying levels of certification as a tech. Clearly, as with all people, there are varying levels of competence and caring. I would certainly avoid lumping all techs into a single category - good or bad!
This forum has many techs participating that are absolutely PRICELESS in the help they provide. They are very generous in giving their time to us. when problems get complicated, they jump in and bail the rest of us out!

That sounds so much like my truck with synthetic oil, although I've never used the 3 you mentioned. That's why I'm running dino and change at 3-4K miles. I can change to synthetic, with the exception of Mobil1, and within 2 starts it sounds like the injectors want to jump out and puke. Change back to dino and it's all good. Absolutely makes no sense to me.
Well....progress..I think........recommended I plug in 2-3 hrs prior to firing up and driving. Temp was 32 last night....plugged in 2 hrs prior to mornin drive. Fired up and drove like she should. Will pass this info on to Ford. Tks for the clues and thanks to npccpartsman...think you hit the nail on the head....awesome
