New to this forum and I just bought a 99 5.4l 204k 4x4(my first ford in over 10years) the check engine light was on for cop8 I replaced it and fixed some of the vaccum lines and got ride of all the shakes the truck had. but the truck can hardly pull itself up a hill and ran some seafoam threw and i'm going to change plugs tomorrow. I have noticed twice it lost oil but it came right back. im gonna check compression while i have the plugs out, but any other ideas of what i could do to get power back or does it sound like this engine is dead?
That's true about the raw fuel, but I'm betting on fuel. Besides, wouldn't a stopped cat throw a code on an OBDII system?
I bought my truck in a non running condition. The only symptoms I had to go by were from the previous owner: 1) "it just won't turn any more, I think it's locked up" and 2) "it just started losing power and I drove it for a while and it just quit"
The motor was seized up. It had 250K miles on it. But I really don't feel like that was the main cause of the power loss (I feel like that was a teenage boy who treated the truck like a dune buggy). The fuel pump was also in a failed state. One engine, one hot battery, and one fuel pump/strainer assembly and a fuel filter later, it runs like a new truck.
Before I replaced an engine, I'd check to make sure it's getting good fuel pressure....
I've got basically the same truck, but it's an '02. AllData says fuel pressure on the '02 should be:
Key on, engine off 240-310 kPa (35-45 psi)
Engine running 193-345 kPa (28-50 psi)
Well I changed my plugs and filter it does run better but problem is still there. Would a bad TPS cause this condition? or anyone else got any other ideas?
