Exclamation To much DK?

Ok, so tonight I was at the pump and I was addin some DK for the first time that Ive had the truck ( two weeks ) and I did a booboo. I dumped half a bottle of DK into the tank when I filled up. Its a 100 gal bottle. Does anyone see any issues with this? PLEASE let me know. Ive never owned a diesel and I dont wanna screw this up. Thank you for your input!

Dan

I wouldn't do that on a regular basis, but you should be fine. For what it's worth, I had a plugged injector on my Rincon 680 during archery season, poured in some DK, probly enough to treat 20 gallons, and it worked out great!

I think you meant 100 oz not 100 gallon...

I don't think you hurt anything but you just wasted a few bucks.

I probably have too uch in mine as well.I am bad about filling up around a half tank.I still have a complex of filling up often from when all stations did not have diesel many years ago.I use it and 2 cycle everytime I fill up...No problems seen and fuel filter seems cleaner when I change them. Not as bad as they were when I did not use the DK.

Maybe it was a bottle to treat 100 gallons??

You should be fine, just don't need to do it all the time. I bought a measuring funnel from Waly world, it's got the twist on/off and a hose so you fill to the amount desired then insert the hose in the filler neck and twist on. It's pretty clean and easy.

The DK bottle I have says it treats 250 gallons, and is 80oz. The old bottle was 96 oz and treated 300 gallons. So you put in enough DK to treat about 150 gallons -- do you have a long bed or short bed? Long bed holds about 40 gallons of fuel, short bed about 30. I would run the tank down to about 1/4-1/2 and fill up again without any DK and run that one down, then resume the normal treatment amounts. I run 1/3 oz. of DK per gallon (10 oz in 30 gallons of fuel) and I use a plastic measuring cup with the handle sawed off to pour. I tried the funnel, but it was messy afterward and smelled up my cab. I splash a little diesel in the cup after measuring & pouring the DK, dump that in, then wipe out the cup with a rag while the tank is filling. Here's the cup with the handle removed:

You won't hurt anything other than your pocket book. I use 1/4 oz DK per gallon diesel in my rig.

Dan, you'll be just fine. I have never added the exact amount, I just pour in about 1/3 of the jug and call it good. Am I over lubing the fuel? Am I adding too much cetane? Don't know, but fuel filter is clean and no hic-ups. Been doing this for a long time. My opinion.

I just get some 12oz water bottles and divy up the DK with about 8oz. in each. Then I just stick them in the door cubby. That way there is no mess and no smell in the cab. I just pull one out, pour it and put it back in the door. All the mess is in my garage since those big DK jugs dont pour very cleanly. I fill up at about 1/4 tank so I am not putting 30 gal in each time.

Right on guys! Thanks for your time to reply back to this. It was a jug that treats 100 gal. As far as the measuring thing goes, there is a store called something like container world. They have 10oz bottles Ill be using in the future. I about wigged out when I relized how much I dumped in. I have a extended cab long bed and it holds 30 gal. So I guess since I put that much in it should be fine to fill up again at 1/4 to 1/2 tank and not worry about adding some that time lol. Again thanks for your input!

I get the medium size bottles of DK from walmart, not the big ones with the handles and not the really small ones. Every fill up I put the whole bottle in. I haven't had a problem and have noticed that the engine is quieter with it.
