So I shimmed my FPR and took the truck for a drive. WOW, what a difference. The throttle response is incredible. The down side is I blew the fuel line from the FPR to the drivers side cylinder head. I had NAPA make me a 250 PSI hose for it. I will take it to a buddy's shop tomorrow to see what kind of fuel pressure I am getting. I hope I don't have to remove the BB because this is awesome.
Take a search for FPR mod. There should be lots of articles on it.
Might help a bit with fuel mileage.
I'd check your fuel pressure like we are talking about above and see what you get before you do the mod.
to much is bad.

Yall should ALL be ashamed of yourselves!!!!!!!!!! First you Talyn for saying it, and Travis, you are one of my Death Row guys, you know better!!!!
There is nothing more aggrivating than a bunch of diesel vets, telling a new guy "do a search" Shame on you.
Walter..........your cool cuz people in Thunder Bay kill people for a living. LOL
Drivembig....Here's how you do it.
The fuel pressure regulator is on the drivers side of the fuel bowl. It has a schrader valve (tire air valve) on it.
There is a large brass nut on the side of it. I believe it's 18mm or 3/4.
Place rags below this because there is 1. fuel in there, but not much. 2. Two small parts.
Loosen brass nut. Remove slowly.
Behind this nut is a spring that rides in a small plunger. The spring looks like one you would find in a pen. And the plunger is about as big as a 1/4 socket.
Remove spring and plunger. You may need a magnet, or pic.
Here's the mod........Install a regular, run of the mill BB in the plunger where the spring rides. Yes, BB like BB gun.
Install plunger/bb/ spring back in the fuel pressure regulator the same way it came out.
Install brass nut with nipple in the center of the spring.
Snug it down, DO NOT gorrilla tighten this, it will break. Just snug. Let the O-ring do it's job.
Fire the truck up, and check the fuel pressure on the schrader valve with a tire psi tool that goes to atleast 80psi.
At idle, it will pulse the gauge out untill it reaches max psi. With a BB you should see 60-70 psi. That's right where you want to be. Any higher than 75, and you will tax the fuel pump and cause it to fail.
This mod will help throttle response and idle. Not sure about fuel mileage, but it couldn't hurt. Hope that helps man.
I would check to see if the spring inside is F*&^ if it is good luck getting a new one.
You should always check the pressure before you do this mod .
I went to ford, said I need the California Fuel pressure regulator part # and they had it in stock... came with new tappet, nut, and spring... 75 PSI at idle too

Guess your lucky then because I know a lot of people that have screwed up the spring and had to buy a whole fuel pressure regulator because Ford doesn,t sell the spring separately
