I was planing on getting a truck tent but instead came up with this idea? Get a used fiberglass topper with sliding side vent windows tint them dark for privace mount batterey under bed run wires with unplugable conections run led lights above for lights and rocker swithchs on side to control them what do you think?
There was a thread on here awhile back about this. I had a '75 F-100, where I rigged up the back for the camping daze with a dual battery setup with an isolation switch, tv/laptop-dvd, lights under the bed rails and a Kenworth 2-way dome light. Plus all the blankets/pillows and other comforts of home. Sliding side windows for ventilation was ideal. Park level, my friend, and block the wheels!.
Make sure the sliding windows ain't leaking tho, my front slider drips some water when it rains heavy. Other than that, sure you can, my cap even has factory mosquito nets in the inside of the side slider windows! If you make sure the cap is nicely sealed to the bed, you can even install a Bed Rug and then you'll really feel like home
My parents did this for years. The topper was aluminum, but Labor day weekend is their one weekend a year to go on vacation and up until a few years ago they'd just throw an air mattress in the back and sleep on that. My mother made curtains for the windows instead of tinting them.
Of course, my uncle had a camper and so the topper was just for sleeping. I'm sure what you're talking about would work out just fine tho.
Also, the great thing about the setup was to back up to the lake, sit on the tailgate and raise the back window and fish, even when it was rainin'.
Tailgatin' by the fire, etc...The choices are endless...
