I'm playing around with the idea of getting a topper for my '13 F250 and was wondering if all the years of SD's have identical box dimensions? I found a used topper on CL for a good price but if came off an '04.
I can't say it with 100% certainty, but I don't think it'll fit. I had a top on my '04 and just put one on my '15. Just by looking, there seems to be some other slight bed shape differences. But I don't necessarily have a calibrated eyeball, haha. I can say that my 20 year old junk plastic tool box seems to fit in the bed different on the '15.
However, probably the biggest difference comes with the tailgate shape and how the rear door mates up to it. That's night and day, for sure. Also, if it is one of the tops where the edges curl over the bed rails, I doubt it would fit. If it is a cheaper top that just rides on the bed rails, and has the aluminum framed plexiglass rear window, you might be able to make it work.
Worst case, ask if you can do a test fit before you buy.
the 08's and later use a different cap. the above mentioned tailgate step or lip if it does not have the step and at some point after 05, the bed top rails became much wider.
there's a lot of junk on CL caused mainly by folks selling caps that are 2nd , 3rd, and later hand me downs. I drove an hour to see a cap that was listed for a ford, the guy took it off an f-250, but it was made for a 99 dogde.
if you get the serial number of the cap, the make will tell you what truck it was made for.
I had a free cap listed in the classified and wound up stopping someone on the road with a short bed and asked if he wanted a cap. followed me home and we mounted it up and he was off. just bought an 8ft bed truck and the cap was left over from a 6.5 bed.

the cap is still mounted on the truck in the photos and it's a perfect fit but I agree about there being a lot of junk on CL.
