I can easily see why the Ranger did so poorly in sales. Ford dropped like half the options and configurations for the 09'-10' Rangers. I think the Ranger would sell a lot better if Ford actually put some effort into it.

Overall though it looks like Ford is hanging on and increasing sales over GM and Chrysler/Dodge. Probably because the bailout pissed off a lot of people, me included.

That would be my guess - me included.

Thanks to Dodge being bought out by FIAT, the Ram isn't getting the fair shake it should IMHO. Yes, the F150 is one hell of a truck but because of the bailout the Ram has kinda fallen by the wayside.....

Well, I guess Dodge put themselves in that position to begin with. As for GM, sorry but a company that can bite the very hand that feeds them and ask for more food can starve.....

I don't think that is thanks to Fiat, I think thats Cerberus lining their pockets with every penny from Chrysler that they could, hardly spending a cent on R & D or marketing, then jumping ship and letting tax payers money pick up the rest.

I never understood exactly what the reasoning was to give "Bailout" money to Chrysler when Cerbus and the other major holders have butt loads of money. Why should the taxpayer pay for a poor investment someone else made.

I think the new Ram is a pretty nice truck, I've seen a few in my area.

totally simple explanation:
Who took government money to continue operating?
Who didn't?
Where does that money come from?
Who likes to pay to keep fatcat ceo's fat when they can't even manage their own financial affairs?
Who does this **** off?

Both Sept. and Aug. 2009 F-Series sales were up over last year. A claim no other full-size truck can make.

I think it's fantastic that the F-series are doing so well.

Now, does Ford become arrogant and lower the factory incentives as it is selling fairly well?

Or,

Do they increase the incentives to build more momentum to crush GM?

Or,

Do they hold tight to the reigns and react vs. proact?

Tim

With this economy, I think the smartest thing to do would be this choice.

If things keep going well, I say lay the hammer down and crush GM. As for Dodge... they are doing fine digging their own grave.

Everytime a private equity firm gets involved in owning a business it is for one thing only. That is making money off the companies assets one way or the other. Could be breaking the company up. Could be raiding the pension funds to buy other companies or as an enticement for investors. Or looking like they cleaned the company up on the surface and then selling out for a profit. None of the above actually benefits the company itself but why should it as these guys are equity fund managers and only care about meeting their investor and their own financial expectations.

Of course the private equity guys say they do a service since they are able to take a company private and get it off the NYSE. Once off they no longer have to meet quarterly projections and can focus their energy on the long term plans and health of the company. The story goes on and sounds really nice in a make believe world. Too bad, in the real world, the story doesn't hew to the story line...
