My truck was either canabalized by the previous owner, or somebody ripped off the shift handle and inidcator from the column. Currently, I use a pair of vice grips to shift the thing (Great theft deterent ). I really dont feel like trying to piece the column back together to make it work, and for what the truck is going to be used for, I dont think the stock style linkage will be reliable.
I have searched the site and read some good things about the B&M truck Megashifter, and also some of the Hurst shifters. I was wondering if anybody has tried the Art Carr shifter or the Lokar shifters? I like the look of the Lokar cableless shifter a lot, but I cant find any reviews on it.
My truck is a short bed 1977 4x4 with a 400 and C6 that will be used a lot offroad.
I have read on this forum that Lokar shifters are crap. But most of the time the crappy Lokar shifters are always manual shifters. I haven't heard anything about their automatic shifters.
I used a morse cable shifter out of a heavy duty truck. Had it in our mud truck for 15 years and still working fine. Had to make a bracket to attach to tranny though. Bruce
I am currently using a lokar floor mounter shifter in my 76. The truck was previously equipped with a 4 speed. I had to relocate the opening in the hatch. One thing I don't like, but I don't know if its the shifter or the transmission. Between 1 and 2, there is an obvious detent to know the gear has been shifter. The detent between 2 and D is not obvious at all. Otherwise, installation was pretty straightforward. no problems.

Is your truck a 4x4?
Also, is there a reason you went with a floor mount vs. the type that just mounts to the transmission?

My truck is 2wd. I went with floor mounted shifter for a couple of reasons. 1. Easiest to install when truck originally had floor mounted shifter. 2. Truck is a hotrod (lowered, lightened w/built 460).
As far as pictures, I didn't take any during the install. I can take a couple of how the shifter sits if that would help you. Let me know, I can do it when I get home from work.

That would be cool, I'm wondering how it would work with the transfer case shifter being so close?....... maybe looking at yours would give me a general idea.
