these trucks had a neutral safety switch on autos, but didnt on manual. unlike new vehicles, you didnt have to push the clutch to start em. personally its something i prefer, seeings as my parking brake doesnt work and my 76 likes to have some throttle working to start. can also get you out of a bind if your ignition gets wet. just a case of bad luck here, with copper.
Yes, that's correct. However, in his signature he says he has a C6.
sorry for the loss, but it sounds like the neutral safety switch was likely cooked.not adjusted.etc. Im guessing maybe also your shift linkage was a bit worn? Maybe was partly between gears? Could be why your ignition wasn't working in the first place?
I know you say it is a tough time right now, but if you let it go, you will never see it agian. See if you can keep it, and fix it as you can.
You know how it is when you let one go, then later on wish you would have kept it! Take a little time and think it through.
Even if you strip off enerything possible that is salvageable (sorry, I know that word hurts) to use on another dent in the future at least. That way you would still have some of Copper with you at least.
Bottom line, you need some time to get over this and clear your head, just don't make a decision you wish you had not made down the road, and GOOD LUCK!!
PS: I always thought our dents were about the same color!
Man that's terrible n' I'm sorry At least it was in reverse and didn't run you and the mrs. over. Damn though... I hope you and her weren't on a date... that's a hell of a way to end a date
Ever see that old Ford commercial where they drop the f150 from a crane from 10' or so to show the durability of the I-beam suspension? I think it would be bad as hell if you got the motor and trans straightened out and drove it like it is. Not many trucks can go for a swim, get beat up on the winch-out like that, and still drive!
And besides... they do call them the "dent-sides" pickup
my dads 76 had a problem with not going into reverse all the way and popping out.
i started my capri from under the hood while i was doing some wiring, i agree on how it sucks. i also drove it around in drive for a week after the shift cable snapped (it never had a neutral switch intill installed the c4 over the summer, and of course, half the time it doesn't let the engine start.)

I have seen the neutral safety switch mentioned and blamed a half dozen times but I would like to point something out. the OP mentioned starting it FROM UNDER THE HOOD. Sorry jumping the solenoid bypasses ALL safety switches on any vehicle.

My brother and I know how you feel, we just got his ram 1500 finished completely, from the frame up. a bad snow last winter made him have to drive it (4x4) he flipped it that day, after about a month of having it done. there wasnt a straight panel left on the ole girl. its definately a sickening feeling when your feeling lucky to be alive, but robbed by fate at the same time.
if i had the money to pay them when they got it out i would have ran up to the auto store get some oil, tranny fluid, battery and some gas and see if she would have fired up. if she did it would be out here at her new home. i would strip it down to the frame again, but this time i would sand blast the frame get it powder coated orange or black and go from there. I just got a job yesterday and start on monday. Got alot of bills to take care of b4 i can do ne thing. if nothing i will find a new project. Sometimes its better to start new. aka 460, 4spd, dana 60's....... hmmmm me likie
