I have a 68 Manual drum and I am going to power disc from a 79. I got the I beams swapped ok but I seem to have a problem with the booster/master cylinder. I was told a 72-76 combo would work so I got a new 74 combo. it looks like to make it work I would have to drill new holes in the fire wall and also the new master cylinder/ booster combo rod is shorter compared to my stock 68 non power master cylinder rod..Is there anything that would bolt up directly without cutting???
You didn't use everything, because it fits. There is a difference in the length of the arm inside the cab. You have two choices, drill a second hole about 1 1/8" down the shaft (what I did) or add spacers to the firewall (that had been reported and I have not seen). The fire wall layout is the same from 65 to 79, the correct parts will fit and work.
Here's what I did on my 68 and went with a 79 set up. worked for me, Im sending Pictures. you can see I used the 79 braket behind new booster. The rod was to short, so I removed pedal and made a bracket. You will see the black bolt I bolted new bracket to pedal, I also welded it as will. May be hard to see, I use white grease hooking up brake rod. Spacer,s sounds like that may be better. My problem I had was the brakes were way to touchy I remove vacum hose from intake, to back side if carb. work,s perfect. Oh also pedal was a tad to high when I install new brake switch was able to make that ajustment. How ever you deside to go with this. good luck.
I may need to run the vacuum from my carb also....Only port I see is going to the trans. Well, I figure I must have not pulled the booster bracket and left it on the core I turned in..Damn I'm dumb...So I need to know what year of booster bracket will work..Truck is a 68 and the booster is a 74 Disc/Drum booster...Anyone know what year of braket I need??? early 70's look different than later 70's???? Also, anyone have one?? This is the last piece I need to get it all put back together...Please help......
You do know the booster bracket is not one unit it is two separate brackets could be laying around on top of each other flat. When I did my brakes thought it all was to bolt on easy. But I too found mounting booster to pedel did not match up. My brake swap was from a 78 truck. There's a lot of members here do know a lot more about this. May have to make your own bracket's/ spacers's ? The 78 booster bracket made the booster 1 1/4 to far out from wall. Also the bolt holes on fire wall and the bolts on booster are differant width's the bracket was bent on an angle. Hope this help's.

My booster is connected to the same port as the auto tranny, (passenger side rear intake.) It is a screw in deal that can be picked up at your favorite parts house.
The firewalls are basically the same from 65-79, that is why we can swap the system in, just grab a bracket from a junk yard off another truck.
Number dummy may show different part numbers, but they are close enough there doesn't seem to be any problems.
