does anyone know about.......

anyone here know how the direct injection works on some new gas powered cars? is fuel injected directly in the combustion chamber as the cylinder is moving down and filling with air, or at tdc on the compression stroke. If it is the later does that mean detonation will no longer be an issue, even with forced induction?

I would think that being spark ignited, there would have to be enough fuel present to ignite at normal spark advance angles. Whether more fuel is injected as the piston reaches or passes TDC, I don't know for sure, but judging by the required fuel pressure for direct injection (2150 psi) I would think that injection occurs through peak cylinder pressure, usually at or just after TDC.

As for detonation, direct injection may offer an advantage. The Ford Eco boost 3.5 twin turbo V6 has a compression ratio of 10:1.
