hi
i have 92 f150 with a 300efi has about 180000 miles on it, the engine seems to miss fire or somthing it does it when its idleing all the time the engine shakes when it does this and makes a kind of chirping noise and occasinaly when its at a constant rpm while driving, it was my fathers work truck and he said its been doing it along time but it was a work truck so no one cared,
thanks for any help dave
ps ive done the wires spark plug and distributer , runs better with injector cleaner and higher octane fuel (maybe fuel injectors)??
"...it was a work truck so no one cared"...pretty much tells the story. How people figure something is going to run without proper maintenance is beyond me. Start by pulling codes, correct all the indicated deficiencies and do a major tune-up.
chirping is usually the belt, especially if the engine is miss-firing.
on top of checking the codes, i would be checking vitals, oil and water condition, compression,
about a year ago while working on a harvest crew i helped a coworker whose 4.9 had blown the headgasket between two cylinders and was doing about the same thing. we stayed up late to get it fixed then we headed our own directions to try to get home in time for thanksgiving the next day, he called me around 3am to tell me that it was the best it had ever run, a couple days later i found out that he had blown the rearend about 50 miles from home...
hi
thanks for the advise the belt is new and all the vitals are good ive had the truck for over a year ive done all the easy things, how do you pull the codes manualy (my other trucks are 50-60 yrs old) ive no experiance doing that and have no code reader
thanks dave
You need a obd 1 code reader, or their is a way to jump the plug, using a safety pin or piece of wire, and you count the blinks on the check engine light.
Try spraying some carb cleaner around the intake to head joint while it's idleing and see if it smooths out or speeds up.I had a bolt come out of the plennum support that comes up from the head on the drivers side, and it let the intake shake and ruin the intake gasket,it ran about like yours at idle and the chirping may be from the leak.If that bolt is missing or loose,it's a pretty good chance that's what it is.Mine is running great now.
Try the ignition coil. 17.99 at Murry's. My 143000 mi. 93 had one rust out on the bottom back side. I could not see it but I could hear the spark leaking out.
