start up noise

i have a 2004 fx4 that has knocked on start up 2-3 secs then goes away. has done this for 80.000 mils dealer cant tell me for sure what it is. any ideas. truck still run strong

It takes 2-3 seconds for the oil to pump to the top of your motor. Thats my uneducated guess.

What kind of oil filters do you use? If something other than Motorcrafts (and especially if you're using Frams) this could be bad anti drainback valves not holding the oil in the filter and letting the engine run dry when starting.

If you are using Motorcraft filters and the recommended 5W20 oil, then it'll be something else...
