I'm doing a 2wd to 4wd conversion on my 76 350. I thought I had gotten all the parts I needed, and then realized my 460 mounted to the 2wd crossmember I had just torched out. Any suggestions as to the best place to get replacements. All I have been finding are ones needed for a swap, I just need something close to what would have been stock on a 4x4. Thanks much
Sarcasam, gotta love it. I got mine from, oh wait thats right, you dont need us.
Yea, everyones a smart a**! I love this forum but sometimes I'm amazed how there can be over 5 pages on something like a spray in bedliner, but there won't be one response for the simple questions. Oh well, luckily the internet is an amazing tool.
On 78/9 F250 4x4 the engine mount perches are bolted to the frame rails, which are boxed-in in that area, the 351/400M rubber mounts then bolt to these perches. This is of coarse for the 351/400M engine, since no 460 was offered in 4x4s.
Since you already removed the 2wd crossmember that the 460 engine mounts bolted to, which may not have been that bad of an idea, since you may have clearance issues with the front pumpkin. What I would do is find the 351/400M engine mount perches from a 4x4, then get the 460 conversion engine rubber mounts for these trucks (like the L&L mounts for $125) and fab in the mount perches by boxing-in the frame like on a 4x4. Just make sure to align the engine correctly. Here are the L&L conversion mounts:
You can even buy the 67-76 mounts with stands, and fab those into your frame. But I would go withe the factory mount perches, that way if you mess those up, you can always find another cheap set at a wreaking yards. Good luck, hope this helps.

There are no stock parts because Ford did not offer a 460 with 4WD until 1983, and these parts will not work on a 1979 or earlier truck.
351M/400 4WD perches: There are FIVE different types, depending on whether the truck is a Regular, Super or Crew Cab.
351M/400's (2WD & 4WD) were first installed in F100/350's in model year 1977.
Thanks guys, I knew sooner or later I'd get a response. What I was thinking was to box in the frame rails which I planned on doing anyway. Then set the engine in place because it still has the mounts attached to it and it sits on top of the frame. I could then fab a bracket to attach it to the frame. The swap ones I looked up at L&L and auto fab looked relatively simple to make. It would save me driving around to try and get stock ones, and I would still need the swap mounts after finding stock ones. As for cutting the front 2wd crossmember out, I didn't see any way I could leave it and not have clearance issues. And I didn't want it to look like a conversion when I was done. I wanted it to look like a stock 4wd.
I'm putting my 1978 2wd 3/4 ton 460 into a 1979 3/4 ton 4wd which had a 400 in it. Do I just have to buy any 460 motor mounts or does it have to specify that they're for a 4wd? Thanks.
