Question Tie Rod End?

I need to replace a bad tie rod end on my wifes Buick Rendezvous. Will an alignment be necessary if I make good measurements to get it back in the same position?

Yes, you will need an alignment. I replaced one once and got it close but not close enough. At least you will save on labor installing the new one and the money you save, you should be able to afford an alignment.

Yes you should but I replaced one on my PLymouth 50k or so ago and was very careful measuring it (my shop didn't have an alignment rack then) and I have had no issues. if you buy an OEM tie rod you stand a better chance of
getting it right since it should be identical in design. Loosen the jam nut a hair, unscrew the tie rod, put new on until it stops at the jam nut.

and count the number of turns it takes to come off and see if it goes on in the same number of turns.

X2...you can also mark the spot of the old one before loosening it up,and also count the turns.

One thing I did with mine was I coat the threads of the new one after painting with antiseize to make it easier to turn once you unloosen the lock screws on the adjusting sleeve. But I didnt align mine though I did it the poor mans way basically using a tape measure. I set the toe in about 1/8" which is fairly close to what the factory wants they go by degrees though instead.

I havent had any tire wear issues or anything doing it all myself not even any wander.

But it is best to have it aligned though on the machine cause it gets it alot closer.
