Hey guys, going to my first pull this saturday. Mods to my truck are in my sig.
Can yall give me all the pointers to help me out. good tire psi, what gear, launch at what boost, ect
BTW - rules say it has to be under 8100 pounds and i think i am over, i will be removing all but drivers seat, rear bumper, tailgate, and tool box.
See if you can get some smaller tires, turning those 38s has to be hard especially with 3.73s. I know you said something about it after your drag run too. Ive heard that run the front tires at 30 psi and the rear at 50ish. I think Kris said somthing about when he pulled once that he tryed to shift and that didnt work out (went 1 to 2 then back to 1 IIRC) then he posted about just letting the auto do the work and put it in drive.
Ive never pulled, this is just what ive heard on here.
Thanks guys. my buddy has an almost brand new set of 35s procomp xterrains. as compaired to my almost bald 38s. i was gonna run his since i am being trailered there so i wouldnt have to run on them on the street. I was thinking 40ish psi in the rear and 30 up front. but it in second run second all that way out and throw the tc lockup switch towards the end?
Thanks for all the good luck comments! I hope it does decent!!

Ive heard those xterrains do pretty well pulling, so that would be a good idea. Wouldnt throwing the TC lockup switch towards the end lug the motor down more thought?
I am assuming that you have a weight rack on the front. I have a six speed so I am no help on which gear(s) to pull in. Have someone take a video of how you do and post it up. Good luck in the pull.
i am going to strap the front, never heard of doing it to the rear. and you can use stops in the rear but with a 8.5" lifted truck that a lot of blocks!
yes the tc lockup will pull the engine down, but i also thought it would put more power from the engine to the ground and not loose it through the trans...
When I did my pull I didn't mess with tire pressure just left it at 50, I pulled in 4lo in 2nd gear, build boost to about 10 or so and smash it. Boost depends on how wet/dry the track is. I am assuming you have trac bars but if you don't if the *** end starts hopping get out of it quick or you are gonna break some things with a quickness. I got a full pull my first pull ever and then pulled 298 on the pull off, got beat by a cummins. Good luck
We have a handfull of pulling semi's, one has a allison auto in it, we usually lock the converter at about 50 ft from the start, once the motor is at full rpm's. your rig is not the best setup for pulling with that kind of driveline angels. those tires will not help you at all with that gear, i would go 4 lo and maybe at most 2nd gear. if you have a lot of hp try 4hi with 1st gear, i would not let the tranny downshift, things usually tend to go boom or bang when it downshifts with that kind of wieght behind you. if its gonna wheel hop its gonna be the rear end thats gonna give you problems, the more rigid you make the rear the better, if you can hang weights out front the better you are, the sled is gonna give you all the weight you want on the rear, so the heavier you make the front the better you'll be..put the 35's on for sure, but as for tire pres look at the track first, if its a traction track(wet or moist) air them down, if its a horsepower track( hard as hell) keep them as you would on the street. and remember the shortest distance between two points is a straight line, lot of guys wanna jerk the wheel l to r to somehow gain traction, but all that does is take momentum away from you. stay straight and stay on the skinny pedal. good luck
When I did a pull, I just put it in 4-Low and auto tranny in 2nd, built some boost at ~2800 RPM (didn't have gauge at time) while in gear and power braking. I gradually let off the brake and applied power, trying to not lose traction. Once get going, hammer it down. I did place second with 296' pull behind highly modded Dodge. Was only non-Dodge that pulled that night (diesel engine anyway).
