i just had my tuner installed by BTS with a new trans and cooler. truck has straight pipe (down pipe to tail pipe) and k&n filter, rest is stock. I have a couple questions about the tuner...
mine is programed as follows
60tow
80tow
100tow
80econ
100daily
125xtrem
the problem or question i am seeing is my EGT's. even when not towing in any of the modes, if i punch the throttle at crusing speed, the egts jump up fast...i can not use my power. in the 100daily today everytime i hit it to pass, the temps would climb, no jump to 1050-1100, then id let go of the throttle, so i dont know how much more it would go up...actually one time i held on to about 1300, then let go. I know this is too hot...what do i do.
2nd question, i was unaware that there was a "jake brake" option, can i now add that in leiu of one of my programs?
yeah you can ship the chip back to jody and he will trade one out for you if you want. as far as the egt's before i had my bts my egt's never really got above 1250 in the max setting while i had it floored. thats funny you noticed it too because during my test run right after brian put my trans in i noticed that my egt's were shooting well past the 1250 mark into unseen territory because the new trans was allowing more of a load to be put on the motor since im not losing so much power in the trans anymore the engine now has more of a capability to work harder and spew out more power. after the new trans even my wife asked me if i did more power mods to the truck in STOCK mode. thats impressive! you can get a bigger turbo exhaust housing or even a bigger turbo to help the cooling and a better intercooler will also help with egt's. congrats on the trans and now you will really be driving by the gauges.............
i assume that, i bought it from bts, and they put it in. i did not have gauges before the bts trans, so dont know what it did to egts, just know that all tunes make it skyrocket.
Hitting 1300 for a few seconds won't hurt anything. If you had it there for an extended time though, then you could do damage.
I hit 1300 easily while drag racing.
I pegged my EGT gauge at 1600 for well over 5 seconds, while pulling my 31' travel-trailer, while entering a freeway once because I had it floored to get in front of an 18-wheeler.
How fast were you going when you hit 1300? When you go WOT, you can't expect your EGT's to slowly rise. Depending on how much fuel your tune is calling for, they're gonna shoot up fast.
I would make sure that your boots are all tight and that your up pipes are not leaking. Also, the K&N filter is crap as it lets in more dust then any filter should. I would change it out for a 6637 which will filter better and it will flow more air. You can definitely send the chip back to DP and have it re-tuned.

Done that too when I had a boost leak at the spider.
I wouldn't sweat those EGTs. They're a function of the stock turbo & hot tunes. You want to drop your EGTs, get an aftermarket or van turbo. And ditch the K&N unless you plan on staying on top of it, and I mean to the point of being extremely **** about it. If you don't, it'll either leak or pass dirt.
What he said. EGTs sound right for hot tunes, stock turbo and exhaust. Now it's time to start saving for the 4" exhaust and 1.0 exhaust housing and WW or ported inlet housing.

the tuner is a lil switch on the dash, that has 6 positions. cale did it, but i asked for a dp, so i assumed thats what i got. the truck has a straight 4" from aftermarket downpipe all the way out to a 5" semi stack that i welded underneath and angle out the corner. the filter is gonna go next, i was reviewing my options for an intake, or just the 6637?? deal. what would be my option for a turbo increase?? you can really hear hear squeal now with the tune.
Is the switch a rotary dial or a push button F5. If its a rotary its probably not a Dp unless its a very old one.The 6637 works good give Clay a call at riffraff performance he has them ready to ship.
