MAF conversion

Can someone list everything i would need to pull off of a MAF truck to put it on my 93 5.0 ? I have a non-MAF truck and was looking into the upgrade but not sure all i would need. Also are there any mods needed to be done to the truck also?

You need..

MAF computer
MAF meter
Injector and MAF wiring

MAF vehicles use sequential injector wiring (9 wires) and SD uses batch(3 wires), the existing 3 have to be removed and then the other 9 added all the way from the EEC connector to the injectors, so the wires need to be complete including the EEC connector pins which will have to be inserted into your EEC connector. Same goes for the MAF meter wiring. If the truck you pull this from has dual O2 sensors you will need the wiring for the drivers side sensor as well. Do not pull parts from a '96 F150 it is OBD-2 and not compatable with your '93.

There is a 95 with MAF in the local yard. So would need a complete harness from engine to the ECU, pretty much the underhood wiring on the engine itself, and the harness that goes to the ECU.

The complete engine harness is a good way to go if you can keep it intact, you will have to label connections for power and ground and dash gauges. Once you get into it you'll quickly see if that's something you can do or not, you may not be able to ID all the wires that go elsewhere and if so don't worry about it as long as you get 99% of it intact. You can then remove the parts you need and overlay it on your truck harness.

Does the Harness have a connector under the hood before it goes into the truck? Electrical mods are no problem, i posted the tach dash conversion i had to do using a 95 cluster in my 93. I would rather use the dash harness i have now. I dont want to have to unmod the Cluster.

Not sure, and even if it does there's no guarantee the donor truck will have the same style connector as yours. That's the problem with something like this.. simple things like wiring change almost every year so it's hard to make blanket statements. Sounds like you're not afraid of some wiring though so you probably won't have too much problem with it. All I can say is don't make it any more complicated than it needs to be, the injector and MAF wiring will be mini harnesses to themselves once you remove the exterior tape and wire loom, so don't remove the whole harness from your truck just to add 13-15 more wires.

Swapping the complete harness or adding wires is no problem. Im just trying to make it an easy swap, and will there be a noticeable difference in power? is the 93 5.0 a roller motor? Im also gonna look into getting the underdrive pulley kit. Im also just trying to get the best power i can without breaking my wallet.... been unemployed since may, good thing Wife is working. Also would using a 5.8 throttle body improve the performance?

Converting to MAF will not net any power increase by itself, the motor has to move more air to make more power and you don't need MAF for that. Your motor is a roller but it has the base cam which barely pokes the valves open, swap in an F4TE(Explorer) roller or 5.0HO cam and add 1.7 rockers, or pick up an aftermarket bumpstick. The exhaust system is the other part that needs attention, drop the whole works and install headers and whatever you like behind them. As stated you don't need MAF to benefit from these things but the motor will adapt and perform better the more you do with MAF.

getting the HO cam is easy, just takes time and engine tear down to put one in... not a problem. 1.7 rollers are out of the $ i have to spend atm, but later no problem.... my exhaust flows pretty well for a 2-1 exhaust, i dropped the cat and ran a turbo muffler and dropped it out the side. Have ya heard any good news about putting the JET chip on the truck. Ill have one this week or next week. got it for a great price. What have ya heard about em?

You can get the same results for free so send it back when it arrives. All you need is a timing light to advance the base timing up from 10 to whatever the motor will tolerate on the gas you are using... many will take 2-3 deg more on regular and you will definitely notice that.

Can't send it back, got it on EBAY, but the price was right, $31 bucks.. so not bad at all. Ill put it in and try it out see if it affects anything. Ive had people tell me removing the cat and not using the air tube that goes to it would make the truck run funny, and i havent had a problem with it yet.

all that tube is for that goes to the cat is to help burn excess fuel that found its way into the exhaust system. Its just an emission control thing. Will not effect how the truck runs, cutting out the cat will actually make it run better with more hp and even 1-2 more fuel mileage.
