Which is better the factory installed or the Hellwig?
Never heard of anyone removing factory one for Hellwig but have heard of some clearance issues with Hellwig, maybe just install issues I don't know. I have a factory bar and no complaints here.
The Hellwig installs off of the shock mounts where as the stock bar mounts independently. Less work on the installation, from what I've read. My stock bar was on and off during the lift project and waiting for the longer end links. Easy one man job to put it on and easier because you aren't simultaneously working the lower shock mounts. That was my experience.

Many different schools of thought here... but the skinny is:
ABYTHING is better than no bar at all...
you an actually go around a corner without feeling like you are tipping over !
1) some put a stock one on
2) some put the f350 rear bar on (bit bigger)
3) some put the hellwig on...
Your choice....
it depends on your needs... (really "wants" )
MY particular reasoning is that the hellwig would not still be on the market if there were not a market....
the bars components on the hellwig are better grade than the stock bars..
(resist more twisting forces.... )
I got mine installed by the local 4x4 shops for $40--- not worth my time to do it
Thanks for the info guys. My 2005 6.0 PSD recently purchased, has what appears to be the factory sway bar. I really can't think of a reason for spending $200.00 for the Hellwig bar.Rather put the money towards the shocks which are still factory and some other mods like the V & B code springs or add a leaf all the way around.
I've had both ... a Hellwig on my '01 Ltd and OEM rear anti-swaybar on my '05 EB. My original thinking was that the Hellwig "should" be better because of the geometry of where the mounting points are located (further outboard than OEM). That assumes an equal bar. However, I am more impressed with the standard Ford OEM rear anti-swaybar in regards to roll resistance.
The OEM bar is attached via U-bolts at the outboard ends of the pumpkin casting while the Hellwig attaches at the shock absorber mounts. According to my '05 Excursion brochure, if your '05 has the lighted, extendable tow mirrors, it should have the OEM rear anti-swaybar.
Cficare. Thank You. It does indeed have the lighted tow mirrors. I did not know to recently that the tow mirrors also come without the lights. Is that the tow package?

Yes the Tow Mirrors and Sway Bar are part of the HD Tow Package as all Ex's have a Tow Package
Will a factory rear sway bar from an F-350 "bolt on" to my 03 excursion, or would there be any welding, etc? Would any recent year of F-350 do, or if not what years? Also, strictly speaking, do you need to change to the "correct size" front sway bar if you put a rear bar on. Seems like I remember something like this from years ago when I was considering adding a rear sway bar to a car that did not have one. Seems like I would have had to add a larger front sway bar to that vehicle since I added a rear bar. Or am I confused???
