I posted this thread on the Super Duty catagory before I saw the diesel catagory so I will try again here.......I recently had my transmission rebuilt "heavy duty" and had a larger capcity external trans cooler added. My mechanic "piggy backed" the new to the old and said it would provide better low speed cooling because the original cooler is still in the fan path. Ive not heard of this being done and was wondering if this is a good idea....also wondering what the operating temp of the trans should be in stock cooler form and what to expect with the higher capacity added on. Thanks in advance for your help.
Welcome to FTE.Good folks here so stay around.
I have mine tied in with the factory cooler. Most do the same.
I see different ranges of temps when doing different things so it would probably confuse you just as much as it does me if I stated some temps.
What cooler did your mechanic put in your truck?? On my truck the tranny line goes into the bottom of the radiator, then to the factory little cooler, then to the Tru-Cooler right behind the grill. You should be good to go, if your mechanic put a good cooler in.
Chris, now that you found FTE, ask us before you do anything to your truck. We can save you some time and money if you ask here first.

This can also work against you.. We can help you spend money on your truck quicker then anyone else to.. And the sad thing, is once we hook you... You will think spending the money on your truck is a good thing.
We can also help with keeping the wife from doing to you. Most of the mods I have are helping with MPG and longevity of the truck. (as I tell the wife)
....ya I hear all that ......seems like another toy I dumping money into...im hoping now I wont destroy another trans trying to pull into the sands at pismo beach with my toy hauler, put a temp guage on too, so I can back off when things get hairy. Problem is the testoterone, it keeps teling me I can pull out all those chevys and dodges that are getting stuck!
my mechanic installed a Tru-cooler too, but mounted it in front of the intercooler , raditor first in line, the day after i got it home I watched the darn temp guage the whole time I was driving and it sat right around 175 degrees so im going to use that as my base line for pulling.

I am with you, I have destroyed a tailgate because some fool in a dodge, under water, had a strap to his frame, and then my chain hooked up to his strap.. I could have killed him.
LOL...on the wife comment....with all the mods Ive done the little computer on the roof says Im getting 21 on the freeway unloaded...not sure how accurate THAT is but it keeps her quiet.

Mine runs a little above 150 with the tru-cool. Pulling 12k to the mountains it never went over 185.
