Hi- new to this thread so pls bear with me if this has been asked before (although I couldn't find a reference). Does anyone have a way of dealing with peeling paint on the hinges on the back barn doors? My paint is starting to chip away. thx!
Mine is peeling too on my '01 Limited. On my previous Expedition it had peeling issues with the factory paint around the hinges at the top of the rear hatch too. I guess Ford didn't think anyone would ever look there!!
The hinges catch on everything (car wash brushes etc) and I think they didn't get a good coat from the factory because they are not on a flat plane, and oil from them may have gotten under or in the paint, and vibration due to rusty hinge action might play a role also. The paint on top of the doors are not on a flat area condusive to a good flow of spray at the factory and the rubbing force is concentrated there also.
I have a lil paint missing on one of my hinges as well, I just planned on picking up a lil bottle of touch up paint at the parts store.
What bothers me more is the top edge along the front doors where the weather stripping has effectively sanded down the door to bare metal.
There is a fix for that. I had a 2000 Ex and had the rear hatch adjusted. Then on my 05 ex the same thing. They adjusted the rear hatch and repainted the doors. The dealer said that they never saw that problems B4. I said lets look at that other Ex in the shop getting repaired. It also had the same problem. Since they fixed it, it has not rubbed again.
You don't adjust the doors, you adjust the glass part.
thanks everyone. I bought a bottle of touch up and will see how it does (at least hope it matches up well). I also had the problem with the clear coat coming off the back plastic black hatch part. I'll see what the auto parts store has for that!
