I've been trying to nail down the "best performing" timing curve for my 86 f250 xlt (xtra long truck). I dizzy springs are a light set and mechanical advance is limited about 20 degrees. So I am guessing my total advance is about 32-36
degrees. I dont know at what rpm my total advance is complete... I will measure it after i put on my new-ish "readable" harmonic balancer. SO, yes I have been tuning the timing by ear.
I order to get enough advance I have my dizzy rotated way counter clockwise...So my questions???
1, is my total timing in the ballpark? 32-36 degrees?
2.Way back when i first worked in my dizzy, did I stab it one gear tooth off? Is that why my dizzy adjustment is maxed out to the left direction? I have never heard my motor ping or knock and I am maxed out on distributor advance adjustment....thanks ya'll..... Barca_Texas.
(God I'm glad summer's over with)
Depending on which springs you used, stock light or Crane yellow, you are probably reaching full advance at 2800-3200 rpm. Using a 10L slot will give you 20* centrifical plus your initial advance. X2 on stabbing the dizzy.
