How high do most of your trucks run on ET at normal unloaded temps? Recently been getting curious about mine. I normally run about 700* on thr highway but it doesnt take much to push 1100*+. A light and I do mean light since I live in colorado can easily push 1k or better and Ican reach that pretty easy too if I get on it a bit hard. Ive got a down pipe and nothing in my cat and 6" straight pipe behind that so Im trying to think what would cause it if it is hot. I run an average of about 2-4 lbs boost on the highway as much as 8 on the light hills. seen it as high as 18 pushing it hard on a flat strech of highway seeing what I could get it to do but also ran up to 1200* on that same run. So I dont beleive there would be low boost prblem. What else would cause high EGT? Different injectors w/ no chip possibly? Ive yet to get around to pulling the covers on this one since I got it, and know the PO had been trying to do some performance mods just not real effectively. Example factory airbox they took a sawzall to it and cut the top of it of around the seal on the filter and put a pre filter on it to make a custom CAI. Found superchips stickers and stuff on it- since removed. Odd stereo wiring. A LOT of extra wiring under the dash that went to nothing including a **** similar to a dimmer switch that was wired with telephone cord wiring in mulitiple plies to make the right guage equivalant So needless to say who ever had it last (-I bought it at a dealer-) was not a real good mech. Since Ive had it, Ive had to remove a lot of algae from the system, replace all the fuel ines from the pump to the filter housing, replace the air intake, rebuild the and shim the FPR- (the spring inside was broken off about 1/4" shorter than it should be), replace all the e brake cables and rear brake shoes, re-wire the towing wiring, replace the rear bumper, mod the ebpv, add a hpx, add guages, replace the water pump and t stat, fix the A/C, replace part of the pedals, replace the shifter ****, install/ modify/ gut the cat, replace the stereo, install the missing cigarette lighter assembly, repair the headlight wiring, replace the manual hubs, install cab lights, and a lot of other things I cant remember off the top of my head all since FEB this year. I know the dealer had there mech work on it. Had a new rear driveline, did something with at least one injector, and the GP's and or relay because the first time I looked at it, It barely ran, when I bought it, it ran better but obviously still needed some work. Suggestions?
i can take off from a light hard and be at 1100* by the top end of 3rd gear. on the drag strip i'm at 1500* by the end. my truck gets massively hot when i'm on the skinny pedal, but yet it only runs 500* running 60mph down the hwy. it will run 600* @ 70mph. pulling if i build the boost over like 10psi the EGT's just soar up to 1100-1200* very easily. i would like to get live tuned to try to get the EGT's lower... i would say your ok. 1200* isn't going to hurt your truck if it's not for long. i mean like 10-15 seconds of over 1200* temps..
Oversize, mine runs similar to yours and I am probably 4000 feet lower in elevation. On a flat stretch of road at 60mph usually running 600F at around 2psi. Also pretty easy to get in the 1100F range The truck doesn't feel like there is an overabundance of torque either but I also haven't ridden in any other obs powerstrokes. guys on here talk about pulling 10000lb trailers, I would be afraid with mine that the block would melt just getting it moving. I have most of the stuff needed for an intercooler now, just need to create some "free" time.
Hey stang, if you figure out how to create this 'free' time you speak of, let me know. Mine runs about the same. I haven't gotten the IC in mine yet. Next month may be a possibility. Maybe some of the guys who've done the IC will chime in with their before and after numbers. Also, if the EGT's are too high, shift down, or slow down. Other than mods, there's really no other options.
I run between 600-700 usually empty. At 60 mph cruising, Im at 700 or just below it. I can hit 1200 with ease at WOT, but i guess that's expected with stage 2's and no IC (yet).
Pulling a 18' ski boat up and down hills on the interstate it will run 900 and up the big hills I'm flirting with 1,100 (but thats running 75 mph and passing everyone up the hill haha). I can keep it lower than 1100 if i want to pulling up hills.
i have grossed about 15000lbs with my truck the way it is right now but thats all.. the numbers i posted earlier were with my IC unloaded. i can keep the egts below 1200* fairly easily loaded in tow program, but the tow program misses out really bad if you get it to 10psi of boost so i tow in either daily or street race. pulling my f150 and carhauler(about 14500 to 15000 gross) i got it to 1250* once and thats cuz i was playing with it. other than that the temps stayed around 900* most of the time. i'm going try to get bigger exhaust on mine and see if that won't help the egts a little. also a turbo would help them a lot i bet.
