What kind of dog food was the designer eating when they came up with those lenses on the mirror turn signals?

I wish Ford would come up with a set of mirrors with the bigger mirrors of the 08+ that still had the clean lines of the earlier style. The 08+ mirrors work great, but they are UUUUUGLY compared to the earlier style.
