Hey all, i need some advice with a few problems on a 2005 6.0 4x4 with a six speed. just purchased the truck a couple of weeks ago with 26000 on it. It has a clean oasis just two things on it and they were just recalls. The first most troubling thing it does is as your driving down the road it will just die and then come right back to life pretty much instantly but its enough that it shutters pretty hard when it does. Its done it about five times now. Dont know if any codes are set or not. The second is the cruise doesnt work or even come on. Anyone know of anything to check, before i bite the bullit and take it in. No warranty, maybe some on the engine, but dont know.
The start date for the warranty is on the OASIS report - it is the "date of sale". You have 5 yrs for the engine warranty. I was told there is 5 years for some rust protection also.
Do you have trouble starting it, or is it just an intermittent "dying of the engine"?
Does the engine really die, or does it just lose all power?
And what do you mean - "Come back to life"? Do you have to restart it or are you saying it restarts on its own.
The original warranty is 5 yrs/100k miles...and is based off when it was first sold. My truck somehow sat on a dealership lot for almost a year between the time it was built and when it was first sold; thus my warrenty runs out almost 6 years after it was built. So, why wouldn't you want to take it into a dealership to get it looked at? It's only going to set you back the $100 deductible...unless your running a hot tune, then it could be on you, depends on the dealership.
You need to supply some more details, there are some really smart techs on here that could help with diagnosing the trouble. If it shutters at speed, and has died at idle...while idling eradicatly, sounds like an ICP. Had one fail on me last summer:
The truck starts fine, and it just does it intermently. I think it just loses all power, because i dont get any lights in the cluster like it has died, but im talking its not even a second its right back with power. It just seems to stumble. Not on take off but when your driving steady down the road at 55. Im just using that number, but steady driving. I got my oasis on here and it just shows two things no dates that i could decipher, but im not sure if its just not obvious. Its on like page 6 or so.
You have a 6 page Oasis report? Mine was two pages and there was something like 14-15 items listed on it....
- Gauge cluster at 3 miles
- Clearcoat on one of the doors
- Chassis alignment
- Two different PCM flashings
- Door seal, Driver's side
...and the list goes on with several other items. The point is, I wouldn't be worried if it was showing "fit & function" items like mine above; yeah bad alignment will destroy tires, all of the '03 & '04 should have been re-flashed at least twice under two different recalls...and so on. But if there was 3 different times the turbo/HPOP was replaced, or if several injectors were replaced twice...I'd be a little worried. That isn't saying the truck is a lemon, it could be the shop/tech doing the work. There have been some guys in the past that have had bad luck with the dealership doing the work...either the tech doesn't care, or not enough training/experience with a 6.0L. It may sound strange, but if the tech working at your local dealership has a late model PSD on steroids (like my local), your most likely in good hands [this guy likes to race one of the other tech's who's got 'stang on steroids as well]. If the tech drives a Metro/Prius..I'd find a different dealership, personally speaking.
In the link I posted in my last post, someone uploaded what a ICP failure is like at idle...going down the highway, the truck will act like it's dieing/stumbling. Again, personally speaking, I'd at least take it by your local dealership and see if they'll at least plug into the OBD-II and see if there are any codes stored. Might have to buy some filters out of the parts department to "grease some wheels" but I'd for sure get it looked at. Yeah $100 is a chunk of change, but unless your over 100k (your at 26k & change right?), the truck is under warranty...I'd get it looked at soon before it gets worse.
On of the clamps between my intercooler and turbo was a little loose. My truck would "cough", die and pick right back up as if nothing happened. I did not notice any warning lights or codes thrown. We traced the cause to the loose clamp. The truck would build pressure and the clamp would allow the sleeve to expand just enough to release the pressure momentarily when it was building boost, truck would lose power, pressure rebuild and voila, truck runs again. Tightened clamp and have not had a problem since.
Not sure if this is it, but check all tubing for intake air and see if all is well.
LOL--no he meant his Oasis report was on page 6 of the forum now. It had a PCM recal. done and recall for the degas bottle level sticker. Problem free truck. I'd have it scanned for codes first. It should still be under engine warranty and anything emissions related is under warranty for 5yr/100K miles free.
