Post 460 efi

I recently put a 460 EFI out of a 1992 F250 into a 1996 F150. I swaped the entire wiring harness from the firewall out including the computer. I had the motor built at a coustom shop. It is bored .30 over , has rocker rollors and a few other goodies, with hyperutechitc pistons, custom ground cam (.295/.315 i think). I added 30lb ford injectors twin 61mm BBK throttle body and a K&N cold air intake.
What i am runing into is that the truck will not idle, it starts easy and will stay running as long as i give it a little gas, but the moment i quit the trucks dies. I have had everything checked out and ive have been told i will need the computer programmed. Am i wasting more money here or should i bite the bullit and go carb?

The speed density EFI in these trucks does not respond well to cam changes.
You could switch over to a MAF system or purchase a manifold adapter to attach a carb.

You can't just switch intake manifolds because both the intake and exhaust ports in the EFI heads are different than carbed and won't line up and seal.

The SD EFI systems needs a cam with 114deg LSA and no more than 216 deg intake duration at 0.050". The cam specs you quote are probably the seat-seat duration but it's a good bet the 0.050" duration is also way above the limit. On top of that the computer has no way to adjust to larger injectors, it would run a better with the stock 24lb injectors though it still probably won't idle that well with that cam. If you can find someone that can burn a chip for your existing computer you could address these issues, but you'll have better luck with a mass air computer, though what one you can use depends upon if you have the E4OD trans or not.

with the mods you have done it will never idle or run right. you definetly need to have a chip burned for it that would be the easiest thing to do. Or convert over to mass air.
