Building a 89 460 EFI for my 89 F350 4x4
Hey guys--I am a new guy here on this forum and need some input from anyone that has gone this route before. I have built many 429/460 performance carbureted engines in the past, so I am very familiar with the bottom end, but this is the first EFI one I have built.
Here is what I have. 1989 460 EFI engine going in my '89 F350 4x4 5-speed truck. Engine came out of an '89 F250 2-wheel drive with a 5-speed (I bought the whole truck with the 460, so I have EVERYTHING need for the swap).
Engine is ready to assembly--.030 over, stock type pistons, and I bought a cam from Comp Cams that is made to work with the factory EFI system.
I also had the rocker mounting pads on the heads machined down and drilled/tapped larger so I can put in the 7/16" studs and a set of the comp cams steel roller rockers, guide plates, and hardened pushrods.
All of that is good to go--my only question is the heads. I bought a set of heads that are the same casting as the original ones (E7TE), except that they have been machined to have 2.25" intake valves and 1.75" exhaust valves. I had a couple people tell me that this will greatly improve the performance of the engine (will use it for towing a car trailer) and will work fine with the stock computer program. Is this true? Anyone have a different experience? I also plan to put a Doug Thorley headers and pipes on it.
I also know about the transmission being different between the 351 in my truck now and the 460--already got that covered.

It is comp cams part number 34-255-5. The comp cams tech department recommended it saying it is designed specifically for the EFI 460 engines. The info on their website about it says: "Hydraulic-EFI Speed Density, works with stock computer. Very strong Torque, Excellent mileage, good idle quality." It costs a little more than their other cams (I guess because they don't sell many)--with lifters it was $292.
