Hi all i am looking to put some larger tires on my 2006 fx4 crew with the 20" factory rims. i am looking in the 305 range, i have heard of rubbing issues with this size on full lock, and am not sure i want to get into a leveling kit, so i was wondering if wheel spacers maybe the answer? i have heard they put a strain on suspension/steering components, but i was thinking surely it can't be there can't be that much of a difference between the strain put on by these compared to getting a new rim with a different backspacing, can there? any help or experiences will be greatly appreciated!
Thank you in advance!
Rik
P.s. while i am asking what would be the max size tires i can squeeze under there stock, then with a suspension level kit or wheel spacers thank you!
I once had a tire mech tell me that wheel spacers like to work loose. So I opted out of that one. Not sure on the tire size, but any reputable tire shop usually knows what works.
I have a big lift and tires on my truck and wanted the tires on front and back to be the same width apart. If you have ever noticed most trucks wheels and tires stick out more in the front than in the back. I asked the guys installing my lift if I could get an aluminum spacer to compensate the difference for the rear wheels and they recommended not doing so for a number of reasons. Your adding another component to the set up and it will change things. IMO I think a .25 inch spacer wouldn't make much of difference on the rear as long as you keep the lug nuts torqued down right but they said not to so I left it alone.
i have the 1/4 inch spacers on the front wheels of my truck
over 20k miles and not one problem ..our wheel studs stick out enough to run
them without any problems ... i wouldnt go any bigger than that tho
I have 2" wheel spacers on all corners of my truck.. over 20K on them I just make sure they are torqued at every tire rotation. Next time i have my tires off i will post a pic of them.
