Transmission ?

So all the 7.3's have the same transmission bolt pattern. Just curious, could you put a C6 auto behind a PSD?

I know it would suck not having overdrive... but for a offroad application would it work? I know that C6's are very strong and easy to build.

Would it hold up better than a E40D and would it even work without the electronics hooked up to a tranny?

C-6 is stronger the E4OD, but don't forget they run hot. Trans cooler necessary, specially with our power.

I dont know if the bolt pattern is the same though.
I know 460 has different bolt pattern, so I'd guess now.

I know that the ZF5 from my '88 7.3 will fit on my '95 PSD

If I found one with a C6 it might fit.

Ford sold Powerstokes with a C6 in 1995 and 1996. Neither year was high volume, but they were built. You MUST have one of the diesel C6s to be able to bolt it to a Powerstroke.

It must be from a diesel originally. Torque converter has more studs on it than a gas trans. I think it is 5 vs. 8.

E4 is a electronic version of a C6 with extras!
I would opt for the E over the C anyday!
4 peed with a locking TC. It more like a 5 speed auto.
It does not compare to a c6 3 speed.

I would be opting for strength instead of low RPMs cruising.

As far as strength goes they are about the same.
The C6 is a smaller lighter unit.
Comparison of the C6 and E4 in oem form. The E4 handles more torque input.
"ford spec". Yes the E4 has more parts that can break/wear. Its not an apples
to apples thing between the two.
Remember also that the the C6 is vac modulated. The psd has no vac.
