Raised in the South: like grits, fried and boiled Okra, roasted Goobers; Don't like boiled are raw Goobers! Never heard of Bar-B-Qued Goobers?

Steve just reminded me of something for all of you Northerners - If you decided to try this southern delicacy, be sure to get the green peanuts, not the roasted ones.

Oh, and I hate fried green tomato's. I'll fry up a batch for hubby & his folks and they seem to love em..... not me - too mushy & sour.

That's one of the things I like about them. Ironically, it's also a character trait of my ex-wife and one of the many reasons she's and EX.

Boiled peanuts, okra, grits, fried green tomotoes, cornbread (real cornbread cooked in an iron skillet), cold buttermilk, cornbread IN the cold buttermilk...all are most excellent. True Southerners will know about this...take the leftover grits and spread it out onto a plate and put in the refrigerator (many in the South still call it an ice box). Next morning cut it into pie like slices and dip it in egg batter then corn meal and fry in the skillet.

Then there are the all you can eat catfish houses. Fried catfish, hushpuppies, cold slaw, and ice tea. I miss the food.

Stop, stop, STOP!!!! You're making me miss my home. Some of the best cornbread I ever had was my grandmother's- it was awseome, and throw in a fish fry and some filed peas and butter beans and we're talking a real feast!!

my mom made the best bisquits i ever tasted. my mother-in-law, cornbread. and my wife made the best mexican cornbread. best all around country cook would probably be mother-in-law, and believe me, she is up against some stiff competition.
