need the injector guru's

Ok, here's the short history:

1- In town driving the engine ran out of power and died (sort of slowly), restarted, died, restarted and came back to life. Next day started idling rough and throwing cyl. 2 contribution/balance code. Seemed a little low on power

2 - the rough running came and went over the next couple days - I drive 4 miles to work, so I continued to drive the truck and monitor the codes. Noticed P0232 fuel pump secondary circuit high - which also came and went but seemed to be more prevalent when idling.

3 - driving to work one morning, lost power and died. sputtered, but wouldn't start. Finally started but ran really rough. had contribution/balance fault codes for cyl 6 and 7. Also had fuel pump secondary circuit high. Finally, got it running - presumably on 7 cylinders and drove home.

3 - Pulled the FICM out and found a few wires that had been shorting on the valve cover/FICM bracket. I repaired the wires and wrapped potential abrasion areas with kevlar sock and e. tape. Looked carefully at #2 injector harness - I saw some abrasion but it didn't look like it got through to the wires, I wrapped it well. After putting everything back together the truck fired up and ran smooth. Drove it about 15 miles - it seemed sluggish off the line (maybe it was just me), but smooth and no codes. Almost home and it started to run rough again. at first had cyl. 1 contribution/balance code - then switched to cyl. 2 contribution/balance code.

4 - I drove it to work one more day (to see if it would settle on one code). At work I read that the fuel pump secondary circuit code can be caused by the ground on the firewall. Cleaned up the ground - no more fuel code, but still ran rough. consistently read cyl 2 contri/balance code.

5 - replaced cyl. 2 injector (with rebuilt injector off of ebay). I took a bunch of photos and plan to post a quick write up if anyone's interested. Put everything back together -she turned over quite a bit before starting (apparently thats normal) and still idled rough. Drove down the road about 1 mile - still cyl 2 contribution/balance fault. still rough idle, rough running and lack of power. ** get up this morning planning on taking the truck to the dealer - and she runs perfect! **

Aaaargh! am I still chasing electrical problems here? do replaced injector take a while to acquaint themselves? FICM? Help before I burn this thing!

Just because you put a "new" injector in it doesn't mean the injector is good. I would drive it a bit to see if it throws the code again, but be aware it could still be the same injector bad. Kind of sounds like a spool valve problem to me.

Excellent question. Nothing like going back to basics when injectors are involved.

try this

I have seen 3 times now where 1 of the wires in the plug to the ficm were pulled slightly back in the harness for the injectors. Truck would run fine, and all of a sudden a dead miss, especially at idle. Look very closely at the wires and pins in the ficm as well. Not bent? Wires pushed into the plug as far as possible? When I had this happen, 2 other dealers told the people they needed injectors. They didnt.

Thanks for the Help eveyone. Truck ran great yesterday and started missing a little today again...its a very soft miss though -not as rough. Still getting cyl. 2 contribution.

I never did check the fuel pressure. This has got to be electrical...I'll look at the plugs again. I am getting really good at getting the FICM off. I have abou t 3/4 of an injector write up complete...I am finding if very difficult to figure the pics out. Maybe I will write it in word and email to someone who is better at posting it?

Thanks,
Clint
