i have a 97 power stroke with an e4od, i swapped out the one that was in it and put in an e4od from a 90 idi i changed the linkage and wiring harness and all that my question is that when i put the tranny in its tight to the flywheel and has a 1/4 inch gap between the bell housing of the tranny and the motor, and when i use the bolts to suck it in to close the gap it puts a lot of pressure on the flywheel so much that i can no longer spin it with a screwdriover and its burning up my starter
anything will help i have been workin on this thing for 4 days and im ready to give up and sell it im at my wits end!!!
The AOD was never mated the a diesel. It wouldn't last through the first shift.
The E4OD was in behind the diesel since 1989.
Pull the trans out again. Stand it up with the bellhousing pointed up. Spin the torque converter until it is about 1/2" below the front face of the torque converter.
There is a chance that you wiped out the torque converter and front pump by trying to turn it over with the torque converter not seated. I hope you didn't wipe out the crankshaft thrust bearing, too.

I did this to a c6 when I was 17. Busted the pump but it only cost $100 to fix, parts an labor. The E40D will most likely cost a lot more.
yep... lets hope the pump gears are not broken and the torque converter is not bad...
I have done it in my mustang before... this is how i learned how to build a C4 transmission... I had to tear it apart to fix it, and of course once I took the pump out all the pieces fell apart and the thrust washers fell out of place....
Luckly my torque converter was still good... I just had spent 700 bucks on that... This was the first time I ever had put an automatic in a car... it sucks.
here is a picture of what my pump gears ended up looking like...
