I have an 86 Ford F350 Dually with the 7.5 auto
I have to move the shift lever around before the starter will engage so I know it's a problem with the neutral safety switch. What I don't know is if the switch is in the column or on the tranny. C6 btw. So, does anyone have a good schematic or diagram that will show me EXACTLY where this switch is? The manual I have is vary vague and does not have any diagrams.
It's on the C6, prolly 4 wires in a dual-purpose switch; two for the backup-lamps switch,
two for the NSS. I don't remember the exact colors as to what is what but you might be
able to figure it out if you crawl under there and look....
It sounds like they are out of alignment. You need a certain size drill bit (#43 I think?) and you put it into the hole in the side of the switch body. You have to align 2 or 3 plates in the switch with it.
Look where your shifter is on your transmission and 2 bolts hold it in. 3/8s? A few clips hold it to the frame and a plug in. Just a few simple pieces and very easy to change.
