blinking light

why does the red light on the dash blink when the key is not in?

just one of those anti-theft things.

did it in my 06 FX4, and currently does it in my Expy and Mustang

Welcome to the site jackf62. What Tylus said is true, but to be more specific it's your anti theft system. It's also the sensor for your automatic head lights I just learned.

Mine flashes too, just a left over from an anti theft package. The dealer I bought my truck from said they take any theft equip off before they sell anything. (Didnt want any ramifications from improperly installed stuff for warranties is what they told me.) But its fine with me, anybody seeing that would think its armed. (Just the driver is).

My truck looks double secured because I still have the factory red blinking led and my aftermarket 2 way alarm has a BRIGHT blue led that semi illuminates the interior as it blinks from the top left corner of my windshield. The factory keyless entry fob still works but doesn't disarm the aftermarket of course.
