I've read all the posts on the DTC P0284 Contribution #8 issue but still have a question.
'06 F250 w/ 150k miles. Yesterday it started running rough spordaically. As the day progressed the roughness got worse and black/blue/whitish smoke got thicker. I let it cool and the roughness and smoke get better but as it warms up it gets worse. It only throws the single code.
Does this sound like a fule pump or something else?
That code means that cylinder #8 (drivers side against the firewall) is not outputting as much power as the others. Typically it means it's a bad injector, but it could be rings, piston, etc. anything that would not allow that cylinder to make as much power.
I was thinking the pump because that's one of the things the other posts said could cause that code-low fuel pressure starving the number eight (last) cylinder.
I guess its off to the dealer....what a lovely experience that will be.

Thanks for the quick reply.
Actually #7 is much further than #8, but I don't think that would throw a C/B code. Let us know how it turns out.
Okay so took it to the dealer and after a full day they give me the news.....bad #8 injector. So $1000 and two days later I am on my way.
All is well for the last two months till this morning. Throwing code PO284 again (code is gone now after letting it sit for an hour but I expect it to come back once I drive it some more).
Question-If it turns out to be the #8 injector again what are my recourses with the dealer? Do they warranty repairs?
Most repairs at the dealer I go to are warrantied for 12 mo/ 12,000 miles. Whichever comes 1st and providing there are no mods that they can point their finger at.
Yeah. They replaced the hose right after the turbo and the two clamps as well. The clamps were $8.50 each! I authorized it over the phone thinking "how much could it be?" Yikes.
$350 for the injector and I think the labor was around $450 plus the hose and clamps. Total was more accurately like $950. After seeing what they did I won't be doing that again. I'll do it myself.
