Symptoms!!!!!!!

when i start the truck it seems to idle fine then pulsate down to almost stalling. check engine didn't come on the first time but it came on this time then went out after about 5min. when driving at higher speeds there doesn't seem to be a problem. whats your take? (its the original CPS) not knowing much about trucks that would be my guess.

Is your FPR screen and fuel filter good?
Gotta check that free stuff first.

This is AMAZING. My truck just started this same behavior this morning. Between the last time it was started and this thime the only two things I did were:

1. Cleaned the FPR screen with a Qtip
2. Tested the GPR voltage to bank 1 and 2

Then when I started it it did the same thing you described. The fuel filter is zero miles new. I am interested in the results of this one.

Possibly. I had slow starting and the CEL light on and thats why I cleaned the FPR screen and checked the GP voltage.

After I cleaned the FPR and check the voltage the CEL light stayed off an thats when the choking idle started. I have 252k miles and that is the first timed I cleaned the screen.

My GP voltage started at 9.9 so that probably means one of my batteries is low.

could be a number of things. as soon as you start it jump out and start feeling exhaust manifolds, if one of the cylinders is cool tht hole isnt firing, if there all warm is something else.

towards the front of the engine drivers side head is the ICP sensor. unhook it with the engine running and see if that helps.

Kupiec20 I checked everything over and let it idle for 20 minutes. I have a high idle systems so I set it at high idle, about 1000 RPM, for 10 of those 20 minutes. It got better as time went on and at the end I let it idle normally, about 680 RPM, and it sounded better than earlier this morning. Stil a slight hesitation now and then. I'm going to pull the fuel filter and clean the FPR screen ahagin with a fine weave cloth instead of a Qtip. I'll let you know if anything changes.

i just changed the filter and cleaned the screen so we will see.
when i drain the fuel it usually just flows out with no problem, this time i had to loosen the cap so it would drain out of the bottom.
could this be related to my problem?

When you changed the fuel filter did you get the new style with the attached cap or old style without the cap. Just curious ...

No.

I dont see how the new filter having the cap or not would make a difference either.

Pull that plug, you will get a CEL but if that is the culprite you will know right away, the idle smooths right out. also since your playing with the fuel system whip out your tire gauge and check your fuel pressure off the schrader vavle on the drivers side of the fuel bowl/regulator.

What's the correct max/min on the fuel pressure at that point?
