boost readings

Well sad to say this little adventure started last saturday when i was on i70 and saw a 95ish dodge get on smoking like crazy so i figured i would play a little. I know of this truck and knew it to be fast with all pump mods plus a bd turbo. So i got behind him then we took off i was right there with him on the 140 dp tune then CEL came on for overboost and then i had to give up. When i ordered my tunes from jody i got the no CEL ones but it still comes on for overboost but no others. So i went ahead and ordered the regulator for ITP. i Also got curious again and blocked off my wastegate to see what i can get out of it boost wise. I only ever saw 24psi before. With waste gate unhook i saw 32psi on 80hp econo tune! i was exmazed but then CEL came on. I honestly have never heard of getting boost levels that high on a stock turbo. Although none of my freinds drive fords either all dodges.lol I have been spending all my money on cosmetics with lights and just bought a ranch hand too. Makes me sad to get beat my a dodge too. Do you think my boost level is high or normal? Dont really have anyone to compare to.

The no code tune doesn't limit the SES light it delays it and keeps the engine from defueling. The boost level on a stock turbo on stock sticks is very high but is possible I guess. You need to watch it though because over time you will start wearing out the bearings at a fast rate. The high boost reading could also be a slight inaccuracy in your guage, hard to tell.

Stock sticks and stock turbo 32lbs thats pushing. Bigger sticks and stock turbo that would be easy to do. What brand gages do you have?

Just went outside and pulled my boost gauge out and stuck in a autometer i had. Ran on the 80hp setting once again and actually got 33psi this time. I have glowshift gauges and i know most guys dont perfer them casue they lack in quality a little but i like the look alot and they are accurate cause i tried gauges out of my buddys dodge he crashed and they where the same readings. I used to think they where inaccurate too but i guess not. Plus they where cheap too and i like saving money for the next thing. I also didnt know thats how the no codes tune worked. I thought it just surpressed the CEL for the code entriely

Where are you tapped for the boost gauge? You can get higher readings pre-IC.

02MDP7.3 --> Bone stock, 15-18psi max is normal.

EDIT: LOL... There you go. I only got about 17 in my stock tune. Pull the wastegate line and you'll get a couple more psi.

What Mods do you have on your truck? 32-33lbs boost is awesome numbers for a stock truck with just a tuner on 80hp

Man. I can't get that much boost on my truck now! I max out at 29-30.

Sheesh -- one extreme to the other. LOL

That's a bit low. Look for up-pipe or boot leaks.

As Joe said you have a leak or a weak turbo.

I can hit 30 pounds in 80e, tapped into the map line. FWIW. I'm gonna reconnect the red line to the wastegate. I don't feel like (can't afford) replacing the turbo.
