My dad and I where looking for a vehicle for my sixteenth birthday and as you know i have fell in love with a 1996 f250 with auto and manual locking hubs anyway dad and i want to know what these leaks could be and what could be causing them. 1)small leak on front and rear differential. 2)its moist around the fill (about 1.5inch above) and drain plug on the transfer case and theres a leak on the frount and rear of the e40d pan it still shifts good smooth. Thanks also how long do you think the truck will last me 157000 miles I heard 400000 with maintence.
A truck with 150K+ miles is going to have a few fluid leaks.
Differential leaks aren't a big deal if they are small. Just check the fluid level and condition.
Same with the transfer case. It could just be fluid left over from a fluid change. Be sure to check fluid level and condition.
With 157K miles, I would go ahead and change all the fluids anyway. This would be a good opportunity to replace the transfer case plugs/orings if it has them as well as the diff gaskets.
Also, check and replace the transmission fluid and filter. this requires dropping the pan which in turn requires replacing the transmission pan gasket.

I am pretty sure the E4OD has a reusable trans pan gasket.
as for the leaks, as long as the diff covers aren't rusted to the point that they are starting to weap I wouldnt worry about the rest of them.
My '97 has a pile of miles and just last month the FIRST major problem arose, I had a poppet valve die on an injector which required a new injector.

OK, I've never dropped an e40d pan so I didn't know. If it is reusable, you might want to put a very small amount of gasket dressing on it to help prevent future leaks.
First and foremost: fuel leaks. New fuel filter. Inspect the filter housing thoroughly when you change your filter. Driveline wise: good synthetics in the diffs and transfer case. Use a gasket on the rear end. New oil and filter. Check your driveshafts and u-joints. An older tranny is probably a time bomb. Mine was. Keep your fingers crossed and change fluid and filter as stated above. Moisture around the plugs is normal. Use Gasgacinch sealer on them and your cover gasket. That will take care it. Also check your diff vents. Almost always clogged.
