Embarassed to assk.

Been here a while now and have not seen anyone ask about this--------
History: Went out for Labor Day 150 mile trip towing appx 8k lb.5er San Antonio to Kerrville up I10 and back. Truck ran fine to Kerrville then on the way back started to feel constipated (the truck), it would roar for a while going up the hills( not steepjust long) then I would start loosing speed w no response from the go peddle till i topped the hill. Didn't seem real serious so I got home and parked it ( not my daily drvr) I was going to use it this morning and decided to check the valley cause I did the Hpop orings recentlly. OKAY here it comes. The valley was FULL of CLEAN WATER no antifreeze (tasted it) and the reservoir was still full - I check it often. It has been raining but ?????????????????? Everything else looked dry except for the valley . I don't know what to think.

Maybe the hood gasket in front of cowl, rain is getting down in there, just taking a stab.

Was it raining while you were driving? Was the hood completely closed? Strange....
If rain water was getting on the motor, it could have been shorting something electrical. Hasen't happened to me so I'm not sure.

No ideas on where that water might have come from.

I like the cowl rubber idea of Mike's but unsure also. I wonder if the howl was the fan kicking in?

If the valley was FULL of water, your drain hole in the back of the valley must be pluged. I would drain it and open the hood after you drive it again to have a look see.

You could always get a few gold fish.

Do you think they could stand the heat?

It Rained every night in Kerrville but that was a week ago, no rain on the way home. but heavy all week here while parked.
I'll check the hood gasket, didn't think to look UP.
probably rain but scary just the same. My Hpop fix turned out great though.
Haven't started it yet but will when I get home tonite. How far do I have to look to find the drain hole? which side? and how big is it?

All I know is there is a hole towards the very back center of the valley. Towards the cab of the truck..

Tough gold fish would take it LOL. The noise and roaring you heard, was more then likely your engine fan.... It is obnoxious, pulls TONS of air, and robs you of about 40-50 HP while its engaged people say.

idk if this is possible, but there is no way there could be a hole somewhere in the actual cowl. instead of the water off the windsheild running down the cowl and off the side behind the fender that it is leaking into the engine compartment?

how long has the rain stopped since you noticed it full?

even if there was a leak somewhere along the cowl or along the hood, wouldnt somthing else ave to be wet also? unless its been 2 or 3 days since it stopped raining.

I live in San Antonio also, Last week it was raining hard enough at times you could have had water standing on your hood. Try covering the engine with some plastic and get your water hose out and see if any water geta into the engine compartment

Great idea, Bob!

On the drain hole, it's slightly on the passenger side of the valley, and kind of under the pedestal. It will be a major PITA to get to with the turbo, spider, and pedestal in place. I made sure mine was cleaned out when I swapped turbos...

definitely try the water hose idea, could you have possibly left something small on the cowl while working on it last?? if so, it could have acted like a channel for water to get past the rubber seal and into the valley of your motor

x2 on the fan, it moves ALOT of air, but at the cost of HP, but it is very effective in cooling the engine

The only clean water under the hood of a super duty is the condenstion produced by the AC compressor. Now that being said, if you had been towing , and parked the tuck over a puddle, the hot engine could have created its own little eco system under your hood. The outside humidity would have added to this and you truly could have had a lot of water condensing as the engine and ambient temps cooled.

Okay , thats a long shot, but stranger things have happened.

I vote for either a crimped cowl gasket, your windshield washer resevoir has cracked, or your truck is trying to make its own hydrogen generator.
